Two weeks ago my boyfriend, Sawyer, and I celebrated our four-year anniversary at Carmelo’s Italian Ristorante in downtown Punta Gorda, Florida. I had been eager to try the local gem for quite some time, as I have heard wonderful reviews. Given the special occasion, it seemed fitting to experience it ourselves.
We made the reservation online, where we were able to note it was an anniversary celebration. Kind hosts greeted us, and staff led us to our table. The interior was beautifully Italian, elegant yet cozy, with soft ambient lighting that created a romantic and intimate atmosphere.
After being seated, we were warmly welcomed by our server, Linda, incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. She took a moment to share more about Carmelo’s and its culinary roots. We learned all of the pasta is made to order by the chef, originally from Sicily, making the dishes truly authentic.
We then were brought water and bread. I decided to order a sangria, which was refreshing and delicious. Sawyer stuck to his Michelob Ultra. We decided to skip an appetizer as we were both planning on pasta, and we all know how filling pasta can be. We did, however, pair our pasta with Caesar salads that worked as appetizers. The salad was perfectly dressed, with just enough dressing and a perfect amount of Parmesan cheese to top it off.

After finishing our salads, our main entrées arrived. I ordered the shrimp fra diavolo (I was craving a little bit of spice), and Sawyer went with shrimp Alfredo (he loves Alfredo sauce.) Both meals were beautifully crafted with just the right balance of spices and sauce. Naturally, we had to exchange bites, and I have to say the Alfredo tasted like heaven, and I know next time I am definitely getting my own dish with some Alfredo.

I needed a to-go box for my entrée; Sawyer, on the other hand, finished his entire plate of pasta without leaving a single bite behind. Afterward, our server asked if we’d like to share a dessert in honor of the occasion. We chose a slice of tiramisu, brought out with “Happy 4th Anniversary” written in chocolate. It was a sweet and thoughtful gesture that made the evening feel even more special. The tiramisu did not disappoint — it was absolutely delicious and the perfect way to end the meal.
Needless to say, we were thoroughly impressed by both the warm hospitality and the authentic Italian dishes. It was a perfect anniversary dinner. I think it’s safe to say I’ll be going back soon … and next time, I’m definitely ordering my own Alfredo.
