And Then There Were None is the last production of the 2025–26 season at Milwaukee Repertory Theater. We took advantage of a break between college and pro softball to head to Milwaukee for a performance.
Published in 1939, Agatha Christie‘s And Then There Were None became the world’s best-selling mystery novel, with more than 100 million copies sold. It has been adapted many times for film, television, radio, theatre and other media.
The story focuses on 10 strangers lured to an isolated island. After discovering their host is not there, they also learn each has a dark secret. One by one the guests are killed based on popular rhymes. As each person is murdered, the remaining folks struggle to figure out who is responsible, what is the reason and who is next. The audience does the same, only the suspense is enjoyable from our end.
On our way home, we agreed the set design played a big part in the production. The mansion somehow feels huge, yet claustrophobic. That contrast adds to the overall tension. Later, when reading reviews, we saw many also praised the set design.
The 11-member cast did a great job. The actors played perfectly off each other. Relying on subtlety, each furthered the suspense in small ways. No one actor stole the scene, which added to the mystery.

And Then There Were None is a fantastic whodunit in book form. Milwaukee Rep did an amazing job in capturing all of it within the time and space limits. It was the perfect ending to its season.
The 2026–27 season starts September 11 with The World Goes ‘Round, the first of 13 productions. Other productions include Footloose and Twelve Angry Men. Despite being a fan of the Chicago Bulls, I am really looking forward to MKE MVP, a musical about the Milwaukee Bucks championship season.
