Bangkok sheds its skin after 5, when the heat softens, neon flickers on and the city’s nocturnal nature takes over. Sidewalks transform into open-air kitchens, night markets glow beneath strings of lights, and cocktail bars rise high above the traffic-choked streets below.
Start at street level in Yaowarat, Bangkok’s Chinatown, where after-dark dining is a full-contact sport. Stalls sizzle with seafood grilled over charcoal, oyster omelets folded on hot woks, and bowls of boat noodles and guay jub pepper soup steaming well past midnight. Michelin-recognized street-food institutions such as Jay Fai and Guay Jub Ouan Pochana anchor the scene, while night markets like Jodd Fairs fuse shopping, live music and modern Thai snacks. For riverside browsing and dining, Asiatique The Riverfront pairs boutiques and casual eateries with views of the Chao Phraya as neon-lit boats skim across the inky water.

As the evening progresses, Bangkok shifts vertically. Rooftop bars define the city’s after-hours identity, offering brag-worthy views and polished cocktails. Sky Bar at Lebua remains an icon, while Moon Bar at Banyan Tree delivers open-air drinks high above the skyline. Newer standouts like Tichuca Rooftop Bar — crowned with a glowing LED installation — and the sumptuously chic Pastel Rooftop Bar add fresh energy and a DJ-driven atmosphere.
At street level again, Bangkok’s cocktail scene thrives. Thonglor favorites such as Teens of Thailand and Asia Today showcase inventive gin-forward menus, while Tropic City brings tiki flavors and a vibey crowd late into the night.

Bangkok’s nightlife is famously inclusive. The Silom district, particularly Silom Soi 2 and Soi 4, forms the city’s LGBTQIA+-friendly hub, with longstanding venues such as DJ Station and White Rabbit Bar drawing international crowds. The Stranger Bar adds nightly drag performances, while Circus Soi 4 (formerly Telephone Pub) marries theatrical décor with cocktails and cabaret-style entertainment in a welcoming, anything-goes atmosphere.
If you’re starting early, attend a Muay Thai match at Rajadamnern Stadium around 6 p.m. or board a dinner cruise along the Chao Phraya. For after hours, dance beneath velvet drapes at Sing Sing Theater. When the night winds down — or circles back — Bangkok’s street stalls are still lit, ready for one last plate before dawn.

Mar 13, 2026Revive and Relax at Finisterra Spa at Martinhal Sagres Family Beach Resort
Most visitors remember Portugal’s Algarve for its 100-plus miles of golden, sun-drenched beaches. We remember this southern coast of Portugal for the quiet, white-washed villages and dramatic cliffs of its far western corner. And for the superbly serene Finisterra Spa at Martinhal Sagres Family Beach Resort, where we first discovered what a massage and facial could do for aching shoulders and faces parched from days of hiking along the sun-washed clifftops. Neither I nor my husband, Tim, had been fans of spas before that trip, but Finisterra made us believers.

Mar 11, 2026Vetera Matera Review
Carved from the honeyed limestone of Matera’s ancient sassi, Vetera Matera is the only 5-star luxury albergo diffuso in the Relais & Châteaux portfolio, unfolding across restored cave dwellings within UNESCO-listed Sassi di Matera. After nearly eight years of meticulous restoration, the property reactivates a historic portion of Sasso Barisano, integrating contemporary hospitality into architecture shaped by human excavation since the Paleolithic era.
