On a recent warm Sunday, my husband and I decided to take advantage of the nice weather and go for a walk at Cooper River Park in South Jersey. Set on more than 346 acres, the park runs through Pennsauken, Cherry Hill, Collingswood and Haddon Township.

There are a variety of facilities throughout the park, including picnic areas, a softball field, playground, bike paths and a bocce court. Our visit was solely to stroll the walking path. It was a perfectly clear day, and we enjoyed the views of Philadelphia in the distance. The walking path goes around the river, passing over two bridges, and comes in at just about four miles. Cooper River hosts many rowing events, as the river boasts ideal conditions for the sport. There weren’t any events during our stroll, which made for a less-crowded experience. We enjoyed people-watching and also spotted a few sailing boats in the water. There is a restaurant along the water, LaScala’s Birra, perfect for a mid-walk meal if your group is hungry.

We did make one stop toward the end of our walk. There is a Polish American Congress Monument at the park, with two busts of Polish generals who fought for the Americans in the Revolutionary War: General Casimir Pulaski and Thaddeus Kosciuszko. My husband and I are both Polish, so we appreciated the monument inclusion at a park close to our home.
