As I previously mentioned, my husband and I went to Maine for our first anniversary in August. We flew into Boston on a Wednesday night, overnighted at an airport hotel, then picked up our rental car on Thursday morning and made our way to Kennebunkport, just in time for our lunch reservation at Mabel’s Lobster Claw.
When in Maine, one must eat seafood, especially lobstah! I’ll take you through the very Maine menu selections we made for our lunch, but first I have to comment on how much I adored Mabel’s. It had an upscale lobster shack vibe. You could feel its history in its décor, but it was also modern, chic and cute. I use the word “shack” loosely because there is nothing roadside about its aesthetic, but it also doesn’t have a stuffiness or an air about it. It was a perfect spot to start our trip, and the food and drinks were phenomenal.
Getting right into Maine’s specialties, I started with a spiked blueberry lemonade, and Scott and I each ordered a cup of Mabel’s World Famous Clam Chowder before sharing a plate of steamers with Allagash beer and garlic. Those clams prompted us both to order a draft pour of Allagash before our entrées. We couldn’t decide if we wanted to try the mayo lobster roll or hot buttered version, so we decided to order one of each and share. While both were seriously delicious, we agreed the mayo lobster roll was our favorite. And, of course, we had to end with a sweet finish of blueberry pie and a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
I highly recommend Mabel’s Lobster Claw to anyone in the Kennebunkport area!
