With more travelers looking for slow-paced travels to soak in natural landscapes, good food and fun activities, finding the right destination to do just that can be hard. In Carmarthenshire, a county in southwest Wales, travelers can do just that and more in 2023. Looking for travel inspiration for Wales? Here are eight reasons to visit this beautiful county in 2023:

This scenic touring route allows visitors to take their time uncovering southwest Wales’ natural beauty via winding roads once used by drovers. Whether by car or e-bike, venturing through the countryside brings travelers to the foothills of the Cambrian Mountains, along beaches and about the lazy lanes of the county over three legs, all named after native Welsh breeds: Llanwenog, Black Ox and Balwen. Download the online guide to discover places to stay, eat, recharge electric vehicles and hire e-bikes along the route.

Carmarthenshire welcomes new accommodations at Pendine Sands. The Caban at Pendine Sands brings beachfront hospitality to the forefront, with a newly constructed two-story building offering 14 rooms for up to 43 guests. Overlooking 7 miles of sandy beach, the new property will soon feature a restaurant and Museum of Land Speed in spring 2023.

As Carmarthenshire’s only cookery school, Y Sied and its Welsh-speaking owner Lisa Fearn welcome visitors to try their hand at Welsh cookery. In 2023, Lisa offers new, bespoke, private family cookery workshops, lasting three hours each. For £250, the class includes all ingredients for up to four adults and two children. Classes include Bread the Easy Way (Jan. 21); Artisan Sausage Making with Moch Coch (Jan. 28); Danish Baking with ‘Dough and Daughters (Feb. 4); and Family Welsh Cookery (Feb. 25).
Quiet Walks, a new guided walks company created by Lisa Denison in Carmarthenshire, hopes to inspire and allow visitors to relax their minds by immersing themselves in nature. Booking a tour with Quiet Walks entails three–five hours of a leisure stroll through some of the quieter paths in the county.

Slated to open in spring 2023, Museum of Land Speed replaces an older building to create a one-stop experience for guests to learn about the many land speed records made on the sands at Pendine. Interactive exhibits test visitors on their ingenuity while sharing stories of those attempting records, including the land speed record achieved by actor Idris Elba.

Culinary enthusiasts must not miss these three new trails around the county. Each trail covers the best places for produce market shopping, morning coffee, lunch, dinner dates, hands-on tasting experiences and more. Taking travelers through vineyards, coffee roastery cafés, butchers and cheesemakers, the trails also offer ideas for accommodations, including a country house bed and breakfast and a new self-catering apartment above Caws Cenarth dairy.

Running March 24–26, Laugharne Weekend festival features some of the best literary and musical talent from around the world. Deliberately a small-scale festival, this event reflects the eccentricity of the town and celebrates its most famous resident, Dylan Thomas. Visit here to book tickets.

A new family business launched this past summer for visitors to adventure down forest tracks, with plans to add a fleet of e-bikes for hire when the company reopens in February 2023. The company lies on 6,500 hectares of forest in the Cothi Valley, with nearby moorland areas and friendly pubs available for exploration and dining.
