Consider these trends for inspiration while planning your 2026 travel.
Experiential Travel
A recent study from travel provider Island Routes shares that many travelers plan entire trips around a singular activity or experience. While this is not a new concept, the notion of experiential travel will be a popular option in 2026. Natural Habitat Adventures often sees bookings from guests interested in one particular rare species or specific conservation excursion.
Wellness Trips
A report from Expedia shows travelers increasingly prioritize how a trip makes them feel. Whether it be a solo wellness retreat or a group tour, travelers desire healing trips for the mind, body and soul.
Agritourism
Expedia also reports an interest in agritourism or farm stays. The Meadows on Rock Creek in Montana is a seasonal, all-inclusive property and working cattle ranch. This intimate property offers farm-to table dining experiences and outdoor activities.
Thermal Spa Travel
Get your sweat on with a sauna-focused trip. Saunas and thermal spas will be a popular element in the wellness tourism space in 2026. Check out The Reno Sauna Club, The Longfellow Hotel and Le Barthélemy Hotel & Spa.
Historical Stays
Historical stays are on the rise for 2026. Travelers look to historic properties or new hotels located in reimagined landmarks. Consider stays at Château de la Commaraine, The Lincoln Hotel or The Asticou.
Sports-Centric Getaways
Book a sports-focused getaway and work on your skills. Golf tourism is especially popular. Brendan Vacations’ Golf on the Emerald Isle and Sandals Resorts’ Jamaica and St. Lucia properties all offer opportunities to work on your swing while in a stunning destination.
River Cruising
River cruising will continue its popularity around the world with new ships and new brands joining the market. Uniworld will introduce its newest ship on the Rhine in March. National Geographic-Lindblad Expeditions will debut its first-ever European river expedition cruises this year. Waldorf Astoria’s first foray into river cruising takes place with a sailing on the Nile.

Oct 7, 2026Review: Prestige Oceanfront Resort
Vancouver Island gets progressively wilder as you leave Victoria behind and follow the coastline west. By the time you reach Sooke, about 45 minutes from the provincial capital, city blocks have surrendered to forests, rocky shoreline, sheltered coves and long views across the Strait of Juan de Fuca. Prestige Oceanfront Resort rises directly above Sooke Harbour, where boats move across the basin, and the Olympic Mountains form the horizon beyond the strait.

Sep 30, 2026Review: Sushi by Scratch at Grand Hyatt Deer Valley
Husband-and-wife team Phillip Frankland Lee and Margarita Kallas-Lee made their mark by reinventing the term “hidden gem” through their surprising and intentional collection of destination restaurants. While they launched the original Scratch Kitchen in 2013, an expired lease prompted them to relocate to an unassuming strip mall in suburban Encino in 2015 and rename it Scratch Bar & Kitchen. Even at a time when the San Fernando Valley was not known for innovative 5-star dining, the Lees’ concepts gathered such a strong buzz that discerning diners cheerfully followed them “over the hill.”
