Türkiye will now fine airline passengers who unbuckle their seat belts, occupy the aisle or access overhead compartments before the plane has fully stopped. The new policy, issued by Türkiye’s civil aviation authority, aims to enhance safety and make for a more orderly and secure disembarkation.
Now in effect, the policy was a response to passenger complaints and flight inspections, which revealed an increased number of safety violations during taxiing after landing. Commercial airlines operating in the country are now required to issue a revised version of the standard in-flight announcement to remain seated. The announcement will also warn passengers that violating the policy will be documented and reported.
The fine amount has not yet been revealed.
