With the precision of a chronometer, Swiss watchmaker Breguet opens its traveling exhibit, “Breguet the Innovator. Inventor of the Tourbillon” in New York City on Nov. 8.
New York is the final stop on a world tour that began in Geneva at the start of the year. Featuring a retrospective of iconic Breguet timepieces, the showcase traveled across Asia and Europe before making its U.S. premier in Beverly Hills on Oct. 3.
Boasting the most expansive contemporary collection of tourbillon wristwatches, along with rare historic pocket watches, “Breguet the Innovator. Inventor of the Tourbillon” offers a unique look into the brand’s horological legacy. Priceless timepieces on display include a tourbillon repeater chronometer from 1812, a legendary perpetual pocket watch with “à toc” quarter repeater known as the No. 5, and the 5377 ultra-thin tourbillon recently introduced at Baselworld.
The exhibit showcases the contribution of the brand’s founder, Abraham-Louis Breguet, who secured a patent for the tourbillon on June 26, 1801. Breguet’s invention, considered a turning point in the craft of watchmaking, neutralized the effects of gravity on pocket watches.
“Breguet, the Innovator. Inventor of the Tourbillon” is on display at Breguet Boutique Fifth Avenue Nov. 8–17.
