Earlier this month we enjoyed the chance to try a whole slew of wines from one of our favorite wine regions . . . without having to travel all the way there to do so. Those who have been reading my blog over the past several years know that my husband and I make a trip or two to Walla Walla, Washington, every year to enjoy the wonderful wines (especially reds) produced there. Sunset magazine named Walla Walla the best wine town of 2018, and we wholeheartedly agree.
IHG® Hotels & Resorts certainly has a lot to celebrate, starting with an incredible growth story. Over the past five years, IHG has acquired or launched six new brands: Six Senses® Hotels Resorts Spas, Regent® Hotels & Resorts, Vignette™ Collection, voco™ hotels, avid® hotels and Atwell Suites™. Most recently, IHG reached an important milestone with its 6,000th open hotel. The company looks to further expand its portfolio by 30 percent with 1,800 hotels in the development pipeline, with significant focus on growth in the luxury segment where IHG is positioned as one of the top two hotel chains.
Over the past few years my husband and I have made a conscious effort to see more live concerts, most featuring artists whose careers began in the 1960s and who remain popular today, producing new music while also performing hits from the past. Such was the case this past Monday evening when we traveled to Portland, Oregon's Moda Center to see Fleetwood Mac perform. The band, in one iteration or another, has been performing for more than 50 years, and they certainly pleased their fans that evening.
Last month I celebrated my birthday with my husband at a wonderful Italian restaurant in southeast Portland, Oregon. Nostrana opened in 2005 and has appeared annually on The Oregonian's list of best restaurants ever since. Chef/owner Cathy Whims is a six-time James Beard Award nominee, and her restaurant boasts "Simple food from honest ingredients. Pure, regional Italian." The list of farmers and purveyors on the back of each menu proves that claim, and the fresh, delicious flavors on our plates bolstered it.
When American travelers make plans to visit Portugal, Lisbon is usually their first stop.
My husband and I made a quick run up to Portland this week for the sole purpose of spending an evening at the Moda Center with James Taylor & His All-Star Band. We had purchased our tickets months ago and had been anticipating this concert a good long while, especially as Bonnie Raitt was featured to perform with Taylor. Unfortunately, she bowed out of several dates this spring due to an unspecified health issue. Though I would have loved to see her in a live performance, it simply meant we got twice as much James Taylor, and that's always a treat!
