October Fun with the Grandgirls
We had another busy weekend in Portland, Oregon, earlier this month, spending some quality time with our younger daughter and her girls and enjoying time outside in mild fall weather. We packed a lot into our Saturday, starting with a visit to the annual Greek Festival at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Northeast Portland's Laurelhurst neighborhood.

PDX Dinner and a Show
My husband and I made a quick midweek trip to Portland this week and managed to squeeze in some quality time with friends, family and each other in the two days and two nights we were there. Harry enjoyed a night out with several friends from his high school days one night while I enjoyed time with our granddaughters. The next evening we hit the town, trying one of a plethora of restaurants in Portland's Pearl District, a post-industrial neighborhood just outside the downtown core in the northwest corner of the city. This district boasts a lively mix of professional businesses, retail shops, restaurants, breweries and residential buildings. Portland's famous Powell's City of Books resides there, and we noted a Whole Foods Market shared the block with the parking garage where we left our car for the evening.
A Taste of Walla Walla in Portland
On a recent weekend trip to Portland, Oregon, my husband and I attended an annual event that brings more than 50 Walla Walla wineries to the city for a great winetasting party. Walla Walla Wine on Tour has been making the rounds of Pacific Northwest cities for at least 15 years, giving the producers of Walla Walla Valley Wine a chance to bring their wines directly to their admirers at events in Portland, Boise, Spokane and Seattle. It provides the wineries a great opportunity to broaden exposure to their fabulous wines, and it gives consumers the chance to try a plethora of offerings from that great American viticultural area without having to make the trek to the far southeastern corner of Washington state.

ZooLights at the Oregon Zoo
I finally got to witness the magic of the Oregon Zoo's annual holiday ZooLights this year, but it was certainly worth the wait (it's been wowing visitors for more than 35 years), especially as I shared it with my three-year-old granddaughter. There is little that is more delightful than experiencing the wonders of the holiday season through the eyes of a child, especially one that is dear to you.
