With major sporting events in tennis, soccer, golf and more coming up, 2019 sports travel is expected to show growth over previous years, according to luxury sports tour operator Roadtrips. The brand credits growth to several factors, including attractive venues and desirable host destinations.
“Sports is a key segment of the global travel industry,” said David Guenther, president, Roadtrips, which grew significantly over the past 25 years along with the sports travel sector. “The athletic venues and events themselves have become a huge draw. Add in an attractive host destination and it is no surprise this is a continually growing travel segment.”
Peak sports travel season is spring and summer, when travelers attend popular sporting events such as the Wimbledon Tennis Champions, U.S. Open Golf Tournament, Champions League Final, Women’s World Cup of Soccer and Monaco Grand Prix.
