Intertwining history and innovation, Norwegian Scenic Routes features art, architecture and design along stunning stretches of road. Celebrating its 30th anniversary in 2023, this visionary project has not only shaped Norwegian tourism, but has also sparked a global movement by inspiring nations to establish their own scenic routes. The Whale is a new architectural marvel taking shape on the untamed coast of Andøya, the northernmost island of Norway’s Vesterålen archipelago. Serving as both a coastal viewpoint and educational museum, The Whale captivates visitors who yearn to explore the region’s abundant marine wildlife. The architectural marvel is set to redefine design-forward excellence and recently won its first architecture award, the Canadian AZ Award 2023 for best concept and unbuilt project.

Travelers can also experience the thriving contemporary art scene in Norway, where innovation and creativity flourish. The most anticipated contemporary art project on the horizon is Kunstsilo, a world-class gallery housed in a transformed, 1930s grain silo, set to unveil the largest private collection of Nordic modernist art in 2024.

Kunstsilo was an abandoned, award-winning grain silo in Kristiansand, Norway, now being transformed into one of Northern Europe’s most innovative art institutions and experience centers. It will house the Tangen Collection, the world’s largest collection of Nordic modernist art, as well as Sørlandets Kunstmuseum’s permanent collection. In addition, Kunstsilo will act as a platform for international digital contemporary art and offer an extensive program of temporary exhibitions as well as lectures, concerts, workshops, banqueting rooms and events.

In Oslo, last year saw the opening of the highly anticipated National Museum. The city’s newest major museum features around 6,500 objects, from ancient Greek sculptures to works by Edvard Munch and Sami artist Máret Ánne Sara.
