Royal Caribbean recently announced Ovation of the Seas will reposition to Los Angeles for future Mexico cruises beginning as early as May 2025. The ship’s arrival to Los Angeles makes it the largest Royal Caribbean ship to ever be based in the city. Joining Navigator of the Seas in sailings from Los Angeles, Ovation of the Seas will offer new itineraries out of the city.
Ranging between three and six nights, these sailings offer U.S. travelers on the West Coast more options to enjoy Royal Caribbean and Mexico. This ship operates its season of Sydney-based cruises in Australia until April 2025 before returning to California. Ovation of the Seas was originally slated to sail out of Tianjin, China, next summer before its relocation to Los Angeles.

Getting to and from Leopard Sands River Lodge in Kruger National Park is half the fun, as it is a short, scenic drive from tiny Skukuza Airport (possibly one of the most attractive and mellow in existence) and main entrance of Kruger National Park, which turns 100 in 2026. Having evolved into a well-oiled machine since its December 2023 opening, it presents its first “wow” moment 30 minutes before even setting foot on the property. As baggage is brought in from the plane, drivers from the lodge set out a selection of beer; soft drinks; and locally produced dried fruit, nut mixes and biltong (the South African cousin to jerky). It’s a small sample of what’s to come.
