The City of West Hollywood turns 40 this year, and the milestone birthday brings a busy calendar of additional events to this already celebration-centric city. You don’t need to reschedule your visit to catch one, though — there’s more than enough to occupy your after-meeting hours every day of the year, well beyond the birthday celebrations.
But let’s start with one anyway. With more than 40 percent of the city’s residency identifying as LGBTQIA+ and as the home of the world’s first permitted pride parade (1970), expect an absolute blowout this month with 40 Days of Pride for the city’s 40th anniversary. Events began in late May, with Harvey Milk Day, and run through the month with art festivals, parties, parades and more. Beyond the bash, West Hollywood remains a center of LGBTQIA+ nightlife with nearly two dozen dedicated bars and clubs ranging from classics like The Abbey to newer additions like Rocco’s. Drag powerhouse Hamburger Mary’s rakes in the crowds for bingo and brunch and is a sure spot to catch some of the country’s most talented queens.
Rooftops prove beyond popular both day and night in West Hollywood, offering the best city views in scenic settings. Among the buzziest recent openings, The Roof at EDITION combines Latin flavors with SoCal vibes and offers a mezcal- and tequila-forward menu. Harriet’s Rooftop reigns as the spot for anyone to see and be seen, but the top floor of SoHo House remains the most exclusive of West Hollywood’s rooftop wonders and a hot spot for celebrities and influential imbibers. It’s members-only, but that designation extends to members’ accompanied guests, too.
For bites, sushi favorite Uchi opened its first West Coast restaurant here in December 2023, and Stella brings upscale Italian inspired by 1950s Italy, but don’t look for checkered tablecloths here. The area favorite is rich in architectural details accented by vintage-inspired furniture and a stellar art collection. But to truly dine local, embrace the plant-based ethos of the city. You’ll find everything from casual to 5-star options here, where Pura Vita makes headlines as the nation’s first 100 percent vegan Italian restaurant and wine bar.
Finally, don’t leave town without experiencing at least one of West Hollywood’s legendary live music venues. With a deep heritage of helping to launch rock and roll stars from Elton John to Jimi Hendrix, icons like Troubadour, The Roxy Theatre and Whisky a Go Go are still going strong.

Oct 10, 2024Rocky Mountain Highs Await in Colorado Springs
My husband and I typically don’t repeat vacations. But then again, Colorado Springs is no ordinary destination. Our first trip here for Cloud Camp — overlooking 14,000-foot Pikes Peak — was all at once romantic and rustic, evoking the essence of the Old West. Cozy log cabins perched high atop Cheyenne Mountain tuck into fragrant pines and rustling aspens, while the banquet table at the stone-and-timber main lodge invites some major tucking into.
