Hotel Lilien, an 18-room boutique hotel situated in an 1890s estate, officially opened this month to guests. Located in Tannersville, a town in the Great Northern Catskills, the fully renovated and redesigned hotel welcomes guests in time for ski season.
In addition to a full-service cocktail bar and lounge offering locally sourced food and drinks highlighting Catskills brewers, the property also features an artist-in-residence program to showcase rotating works from local makers. Hotel Lilien also boasts on-site activities for guests to enjoy, from billiards to board games to a live DJ every other Saturday night. In the warmer months, guests have access to a pool.
The hotel’s historic origins allow guests to explore the building’s past. An 1890s wood-paneled library lies within Hotel Lilien, complete with hand-picked Victorian antiques, vintage statement pieces and literary gems, like the first edition of the memoir Dear Remembered World, a book written by the daughter of the estate’s original owners. Hotel Lilien also features a resident New York state-licensed nature guide to bring guests on stunning nature hikes.
Slated for spring 2023, Hotel Lilien will soon serve as the home of Nat’s Mountain House, a sister restaurant of The Orchard Townhouse and Nat’s on Bank by Manhattan restauranteur Natalie Freihon.

May 13, 2024New Visitor Center Opens in Albania’s Vjosa Wild River National Park
After recently establishing a 50,000-acre national park that includes the wild Vjosa River, the Albanian government selected Copenhagen-based CEBRA architectural firm to design a multifunctional visitor center in Tepelenë, as well as information stations in the towns of Përmet and Vlorë. The newly established Vjosa Wild River National Park, with 250 miles of waterway, has become the first protected wild river in Europe. CEBRA’s three buildings were inspired by the combination of soil and water, with building materials simply consisting of just two parts: concrete slaps, which resemble tectonic plates that shape the river’s path, and natural rocks, which mimic the submerged stones that nature has broken down into pebbles and sand deposited along the banks of the Vjosa.
