Facing Plaza Dorrego in the San Telmo neighborhood of Argentina’s capital city, the Anselmo Buenos Aires is slated to join the other authentic, upscale, character-rich properties in Hilton’s exclusive Curio Collection. The historic property — once a mansion said to have been the private residence of famed tango composer Anselmo Aieta — was first converted in 1906. The modern interior and contemporary décor are fronted by the original 1900s façade. The first South American addition to the brand’s Curio Collection, the hotel will offer 50 guestrooms, with renovation plans that include the addition of a private interior plaza reflecting local Argentinian culture.

It was more than a car journey; it was a transition between worlds. At our first hotel in Siem Reap, huge coaches constantly pulled up outside the lobby to deposit or receive international tour groups; we departed in very different style, in a 1965 black Mercedes limousine once owned by King Sihanouk. The mundanities of mass tourism were left behind. We progressed through the chaotic Cambodian streets in regal comfort and soon arrived at a solid gate.
