Passengers on a recent Frontier Airlines flight may have taken the pilot’s “Your are now free to move about the cabin” announcement a bit too seriously. Sometime after the plan reach cruising altitude, a single passenger stood up and started to dance in the aisle. The rest of the passengers followed suit a few seconds later in what turned out to be a high-flying version of the Harlem Shake.

The instigators, members of Colorado College’s Ultimate Frisbee team en route to a tournament in San Diego, said they had permission from flight attendants to stage and video tape the dance, but the Federal Aviation Agency is looking into the incident to confirm the plane was at a safe altitude and the seat belt signs had been turned off before the dancing began. For its part, Frontier is on record confirming the seat belt signs were not illuminated.

While the video is amusing and it appears all passengers, not just the Ultimate Frisbee team, participated, airline safety experts have cited concerns ranging from the consequences of sudden turbulence to ways in which terrorists could exploit such situations.

In an interesting twist, Frontier Airlines crew members had taped their own version of the Harlem Shake a few weeks before the in-flight video was filmed.
