An Allianz Global Assistance survey reveals fewer Americans are interested in travel to Cuba. In 2017, 40 percent of respondents were interested in visiting Cuba; now, only 13 percent. Of those, 82 percent were unlikely to actually plan a trip to Cuba. The majority did not find new airline and cruise services increased their interest in a visit.

Many Americans still feel confusion over the logistics of Cuba travel, following revised restrictions for U.S. travelers. The majority of respondents said they do not understand the current Cuba travel restrictions.

However, 38 percent of Americans believe tourism promoted positive change in Cuba.

The top reasons Americans showed interest in travel to Cuba are resorts, beaches and cultural attractions. The Cuban culinary scene, automobiles and cigars were at the bottom of the list.

“Our survey found that only one percent of Americans think they will go to Cuba in the next six months, two percent believe they will make it there by the end of 2018 and five percent think they will go sometime in 2019,” said Daniel Durazo, director of communications, Allianz Global Assistance USA. “Despite airlines and cruise lines expanding their services to Cuba, there still seems to be confusion regarding the current travel restrictions to the country.”
