If you’ve set sail on a newer cruise ship of late, you’ve certainly noticed just how leveled-up the overall experience has become — everywhere from wellness areas, replete with Himalayan salt caves, thalassotherapy pools and the like, to state-of-the-art theaters and performance venues and world-class specialty restaurants helmed by Michelin chefs.
This trend of reaching for the stars at sea shows no signs of letting up, encouraged all the more by a demand for yacht-style luxury and comfort aboard even the most behemoth ships.
“The level of lavishness and amenities offered on many cruise ships today is incredible, and I’m seeing extremely strong demand for this extravagance across the spectrum, from the largest megaships to the smallest boutique luxury vessels,” said Jonathan Alder, founder, Jonathan’s Travels.
For passengers ready to splurge, the most decadent amenities of all often await within their private quarters when they book a ship’s most luxurious veranda penthouse or suite. With square footage that can easily surpass that of a city apartment and in-room amenities rivaling those at a 5-star hotel, these are just a sampling of the most lavish cruise ship suites at sea.
THE REGENT SUITE, REGENT SEVEN SEAS CRUISES
Available for bookings on the bow of Deck 14 on board Seven Seas Grandeur, Seven Seas Splendor and Seven Seas Explorer, The Regent Suites span more than 4,400 square feet and include amenities such as custom-built Hästens Vividus mattresses from the ultra-luxury Swedish designer, marble bathrooms where you can select your own skincare and bath products, and décor that might steal the show with original Pablo Picasso lithographs or a Steinway & Sons piano.
There’s no more privileged vantage point aboard these ships than the suites’ panoramic glass-enclosed sitting area, with two wraparound balconies.
Debuting in December 2026 on Seven Seas Prestige’s maiden voyage, the largest all-inclusive, ultra-luxury cruise ship suite ever built will accommodate six guests within a two-level residence (more than 8,700 square feet).
OWNER’S SUITE, OCEANIA CRUISES
Guests choose from eight types of pillows (buckwheat hull or tri-side anatomic, perhaps?) when staying in one of Oceania’s Owner’s Suites, offered on Oceania Vista, Oceania Marina and Oceania Riviera as well as the new Oceania Allura, debuted in 2025. That’s just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to decadent amenities within these at-sea private residences spanning the entire breadth of the ship, with aft-facing views.
With the press of a button, a butler appears to assist with unpacking, in-suite dining delivered from an onboard specialty restaurant and the like. Subtle nautical touches round out the sophisticated décor, and the suites’ spa-inspired marble bathrooms beckon with separate soaking tubs.
OWNER’S SUITE, PONANT EXPLORATIONS
Spanning the full width of Deck 8 on board luxury ice breaker Le Commandant Charcot, the 1,237-square-foot Owner’s Suite occupies two floors and can accommodate six guests. Details include walk-in closets, a flickering fireplace in the living room and a Swarovski telescope and binoculars for scanning the polar ice for wildlife. The real wow factor of this suite, however, comes when you step outside onto the 1,937-square-foot terrace complete with a hot tub and heated lamps for taking your meals alfresco — with mind-blowing views.
ICONIC SUITE, CELEBRITY CRUISES
With two bedrooms and two bathrooms in a coveted location high above the bridge on Celebrity’s Edge-class ships (Edge and the brand-new Xcel), the Iconic Suite is the largest and most luxurious in the fleet, with floor-to-ceiling windows and more than 2,500 square feet of space to spread out and enjoy. Highlights include the private terrace with a hot tub and double daybed for lounging to enjoy expansive ocean views. There’s also suite-to-car escort service by your butler to whisk you off on private excursions and a dedicated spa concierge to personalize the onboard wellness experience.
OWNER’S SUITE, AQUA EXPEDITIONS
The most over-the-top berth on board the first true superyacht to sail the Galápagos is Aqua Mare’s Owner’s Suite, an 861-square-foot oasis stretching full beam on the main deck and replete with curated prints from the Wallace and Darwin era, a walk-in overhead rain shower, organic amenities and a separate study to accommodate additional guests.
CONCIERGE DESTINY TOWER SUITE, DISNEY CRUISE LINE
On board Disney’s most recent cruise ship to set sail, the heroes-and-villains-themed Destiny goes all-in on Marvel within this 2,000-square-foot penthouse dedicated to the Avengers. There’s ample space for up to eight guests within the two-story residence in the ship’s forward funnel that’s accessed via its own elevator and features floor-to-ceiling windows and a sweeping interior spiral staircase that just adds to Destiny’s drama.
