If heaven were a place on Earth, it would be the island of Saint Lucia. The verdant island in the Eastern Caribbean is a riot of tropical flowers, volcanic beaches, magnificent rolling hills and the staggering twin peaks of the Piton Mountains. Saint Lucia has reliably lured honeymooners since the 1960s, but in recent years the island became known as a hot spot for business as well as romance. Dubbed Caribbean’s Best Corporate Retreat Destination by the World MICE Awards in 2023, Saint Lucia continues to expand its infrastructure for business travelers.
The only sovereign country named after a woman, Saint Lucia possesses an otherworldly beauty befitting its nickname, “Helen of the West Indies.” I first visited Saint Lucia years ago for work and was awestruck by the majesty of the island — its lush magnificence stands apart from even its most picturesque Caribbean neighbors.
Though I was in the tropics on business, it very quickly felt like leisure. The Caribbean proves an ideal MICE region because the serenity and sunshine of island life counteract the anxiety and nerves associated with large corporate events or retreats. And while the island may be only 27 miles long and 14 miles wide, it’s home to a diverting array of unique meeting sites and event venues for travelers.
Saint Lucia’s luxurious hilltop resorts remain one of the island’s most alluring draws, and the properties accommodate business travelers, as well. The island is famous for its three-walled hotel rooms, a concept pioneered by Ladera Resort, the only resort built on a UNESCO World Heritage site. Perched on a volcanic ridge between the Pitons, guest suites open to sweeping views of the Caribbean Sea. The open-air property proves ideal for outdoor events — even the most mundane team building exercise is elevated by such a gorgeous backdrop. Jade Mountain Resort, another three-walled, ultra-elegant property, offers views as stunning from the boardroom as they are from the bedroom.
Other notable properties for business travel include the Harbor Club, boasting the most event space in Rodney Bay, and Zoëtry Marigot Bay, which features customizable venues and personal assistants. Bay Gardens lists an array of venues across its Saint Lucia properties, and the all-inclusive Royalton Saint Lucia caters to large groups with 6,000 square feet of event space.
Corporate travelers should also consider the techforward Admirals’ Room at The Landings or the Royal Palm conference room at Windjammer Landing. Additionally, the 2026 opening of A’ILA Resort marks another major investment in corporate travel, as the property will offer the most event space of any hotel on Saint Lucia with a grand hall accommodating 2,000 guests.
Annual events draw visitors to the island, with the Jazz & Arts Festival in May, Carnival in July and Creole Day in October. Luckily, increased airlift makes travel to the Caribbean island easier than ever, improving accessibility for bleisure travelers. In 2024 JetBlue doubled its daily non-stop service from New York, and American Airlines added a second daily flight from Miami. Connectivity within the Caribbean has improved, as well, in the last year: Sunrise Airways launched daily service from Antigua, WINAIR introduced twice-weekly flights from Barbados, and Air Adelphi started thrice-weekly charters to Martinique and Saint Vincent in April.
UNIQUE VENUES
Villa Susanna on Marigold Bay, a uniquely luxurious hideaway, perches on a bluff overlooking the Caribbean Sea. The villa, surrounded by 3 acres of tropical gardens and lush greenery, offers complete privacy and proves ideal for an intimate corporate getaway — the main house is flanked by three separate cottages with a total of seven guest bedrooms, sleeping up to 14 people. The seclusion of the stylish main house perfectly hosts full-day summits and group dining, with a sundeck and large plunge pool nearby for decompressing after a day of work.
Situated on a historic 18th-century sugar plantation nestled between the Pitons, Sugar Beach is a tropical oasis only 18 miles from Hewanorra International Airport. Business travelers can reserve beachside bungalows along the white-sand coast or hilltop cottages overlooking the aquamarine waters of Jalousie Bay. Capitalize on the extensive indoor-outdoor event space and reserve the 3,280-square-foot Executive Boardroom, as elegantly designed as the rest of the property. Nestled within a 100-acre rainforest, its activities include hiking, diving and soaking in the volcanic mud baths of Sulfur Springs. At the end of a long retreat, relax and rejuvenate at the world-class Rainforest Spa, incorporating native, locally sourced ingredients.
