Wisconsin Badgers Softball

by John Wroblewski

Apr 27, 2025

My buddy and I made a last-minute trip to Madison, Wisconsin, for collegiate softball. The Wisconsin Badgers hosted the Minnesota Golden Gophers in a Big Ten matchup. Big Ten rivalries are always a big deal.

Opened in 1999, beautiful Goodman Sports Complex is located on Lake Mendota. The capacity is about 1,600, but several large, grassy areas could allow that number to grow. As expected, Monday’s game drew a large crowd, including a contingent from Minnesota. Spacious, modern and with great sight lines, the stadium is one of the best I have seen.

After we entered the stadium, Ashley Steltenpohl, assistant director of brand communications, gave us a tour of the press box. From there we made our way to the Badgers’ dugout where we caught up with Wisconsin assistant coach Danielle Zymkowitz, an old friend from her time playing for the Chicago Bandits.Madison

We settled into our seats near the dugout, chatting with local fans. At 10–8, the Badgers were in ninth place, right in the middle of Big Ten standings. They were 7–2 at home, which gave us optimism. Unfortunately, the Golden Gophers spoiled our fun with a 10–4 win. The hitting star for the Badgers was Alivia Bark, who went 2 for 4 with a home run and three RBIs. Despite the outcome, it was a great night of softball. Of special note was the helpful, informative and engaging staff who made a fun experience even better.Madison

Earlier in the day, we meandered around the area. Near the softball complex we checked out Camp Randall Stadium, including a statue of former legendary Wisconsin football coach Barry Alvarez. We saw several sculptures of mascot Bucky Badger in different styles and one of the fighting Wisconsin Badger. We also saw the capitol and a tribute to Martin Luther King, Jr..Madison

High-Spirited Hong Kong: The Dynamic Hub Embraces Its Maritime History and Culture

It was known as the “Kai Tak heart attack” — the thrilling, terrifying final approach into Hong Kong’s Kai Tak Airport. Airliners were required to bank sharply at the last moment, dodging hills and apartment blocks to line up with a runway jutting out into Kowloon Bay. The airport is long gone, but international visitors are arriving at Kai Tak again, albeit more sedately. Their cruise ships dock smoothly at Kai Tak Cruise Terminal, a modern gateway designed by Sir Norman Foster.
