What’s Your Favorite U.S. Beach Town?

by Chris Sager

Jul 8, 2019

As we transition into summer, it is only right our attention shifts more toward beaches and getaway destinations. Just this past Monday, globaltravelerusa.com reinforced this way of thinking and gave out recommendations for the Best U.S. Beach Towns.

The beach towns listed in the article include Virginia Beach, Gulf Shores & Orange Beach, San Diego, Wildwood and other beautiful destinations across the country.

I find the list interesting; and although I have not traveled to many of these places, Kelly Magyarics does a great job describing them.

Part of the reason I mention this article is because I recently got to spend a few days in Long Beach Island, New Jersey, my go-to U.S. beach town. I grew up going to LBI, and what it lacks in resorts or boardwalks it makes up for in culture. Here are some fun facts about LBI:

  1. The movie Jaws was based on a series of shark attacks that started in LBI .
  2. The island is just a half mile wide at its widest.
  3. Michael Bloom, a writer of the popular Nickelodeon show Rocket Power, grew up going to LBI and incorporated much of the town’s lingo into the show.

LBI was hit hard by 2012 Hurricane Sandy, but has since bounced back and made an amazing number of renovations in such a short time.

I would highly recommend visiting if you get the chance — it’s far from the Jersey Shore that you’ve seen on MTV.
