Yesterday, following a lunch meeting in Philadelphia at the Union League, I had the chance to visit the Water Works Restaurant and Lounge for the first time. Situated on Kelly Drive, near the Philadelphia Art Museum, the restaurant, particularly its outdoor seating area, boasts great views of the Schuylkill River and the famed Boathouse Row. The parkway leading to the art museum, Boathouse Row and this area in general are my favorite parts of Philadelphia. It is such a breathtaking view, and I never realized a restaurant was tucked away back there. While I did not have a chance to eat there, I’ve heard the food is very good, and I’d like to return again for Sunday brunch along the river. The Water Works was once a first-rate facility and a tourist destination before closing its operation when demand outgrew its production rate in 1909. It then transformed into an aquarium and a pool before earning a National Historic Landmark designation in 1976.
