Los Angeles is known for having some of the most diverse dining experiences. That is not news to anyone who travels. Every little pocket of the city has its little gems. One thing I’ve learned about traveling the world is the smaller the place, the bigger the flavor.
If you don’t frequent Korea Town, you may have missed Liu’s Café. They bring an homage to the night markets of Hong Kong, Taiwan and Shanghai. They serve Chinese comfort food — the menu really hits a spot you may not have known needed comforting. Seriously.
The internet has been part of why this place has gotten popular, but they are legit. We ended up there on a Saturday morning; I do not recommend going on a weekend. This place seats maybe 40 people tops, and as soon as they open, the line is already at a 40-minute wait. We decided we could enjoy our goodies in the car; this does limit the menu because only certain items are served for on the move. It was honestly for the better, as everything looked so promising.
Here’s what we ordered:
- Baked goods: Absolutely irresistible savory scone and raspberry danish

- Chiayi Chicken Rice: Just wow; the pickled daikon balances out the richness of the chicken broth.

- Braised pork belly rice: I didn’t know I could enjoy rice this much. The pickled cucumber is the perfect balance to the fatty, heartwarming pork and rice. I wish I could make this at home!

Next time you’re in LA, especially on a weekday, I suggest you make your way to Korea Town!
