My husband, sister-in-law, brother-in-law and I recently enjoyed a double date night out in Philadelphia.

We started at Franklin Mortgage & Investment Company for cocktails. The cocktail lounge at The Franklin on Rittenhouse lies behind an unmarked door off the lobby. With a speakeasy vibe, the bar serves inventive cocktails as well as wine, beer, spirits and small bites. My sister-in-law and I opted for Champagne and white wine, respectively. The husbands both enjoyed whiskey-based cocktails. We all shared olives, charcuterie, a flatbread and spinach dip.

Our next stop of the night was Inis Nua Theatre Company for opening night of a new play, Once Upon a Bridge. From Irish playwright Sonya Kelly, the play follows three strangers as their lives intersect on a bridge in London. The play is inspired by a shocking true event. We all enjoyed the thrilling show that kept us guessing until the end. The show closes March 24, so there is still time to catch it if you live in the Philadelphia area!

We ended the night with dinner at The Dandelion. Inspired by a British pub, we thought the restaurant would be a fitting spot after watching a play set in London. The restaurant is one of our favorites in Philadelphia—and where my husband and I had our rehearsal dinner. We all decided to share appetizers and order our own entrées. To start, we shared the crab coquettes, house-made ricotta, beef tartare, steelhead trout crudo and shrimp cocktail. All of the dishes were tasty, though the crudo was the standout for me. I chose trout for my entrée, as well. The roasted trout filet was accompanied with white beans, basil, tomato and Parmesan.

I recommend all of these spots if you’re looking for a great cocktail, intimate theater experience or cozy meal.
