Dog Beaches in Southern California

by Maria Angeles

Mar 4, 2022

Dog Beach in Huntington Beach also makes for a great place to catch the sunset.

One of the main draws of Southern California is the beaches. I’ve enjoyed my fair share of them as a beach volleyball player and cyclist. Now, as a dog owner, I want to run on the beach with my dog, but that isn’t as easy. If you live here, you understand; and if you happen to be visiting the area with your pup, you’re in luck because I have spent a lot of my time uncovering Southern California’s best dog beaches.

Dog Beach, Huntington Beach
Find 1.5 miles of beach to let your pooch run to their heart’s content. Dogs can enjoy the beach off leash and meet canine buds.

Rosie’s Dog Beach, Long Beach
Rosie’s Dog Beach in Long Beach offers a small, reserved area for canines to savor the sun and sand.

Arroyo Burro Beach Park, Santa Barbara
Now this is one I haven’t visited with my pup yet, but I have been there. I didn’t have a dog yet when I first visited, but this beach also offers some great grub. If you make your way out here, I recommend you plan it around brunch and visit Boathouse at Hendry’s Beach.

These are the three I am familiar with, and rest assured, I’ll share more as I discover these gems. Are there any dog beaches you visit with your pup?

What Maui Visitors Need to Know

There’s a lot happening on the beautiful island of Maui and recovery from the devastating fires in Lahaina is underway. Among happy events is a gorgeous cultural redesign of all the suites and villas at Fairmont Kea Lani, plus the opening of the resort’s Hale Kukuna — a 2,000-square-foot cultural center that focuses on sharing Hawai’ian culture, traditions and history, with the goal of a reciprocal sharing of ‘ike (knowledge) and mo’olelo (stories) that link the island’s storied past and vibrant present.

Explore Portugal on a Wine Tasting Tour with a Touch of History

All it takes is one glance at the grounds of Quinta Dona Maria, which includes a grand villa and surrounding gardens, to realize wine tasting in Portugal comes with a good dose of history. The vineyard is located in Estremoz, just northeast of the first-century Roman ruins found in Evora. In 1718 King João V built this estate for his lover, Dona Maria. When she died, the current owner’s ancestors purchased the land and have been making wine ever since. Taste the wine, which is terrific, especially the full-bodied red Dona Maria Grand Reserve. Then venture inside a building that stores large amphora vases, including one dating back to the 1200s.

The Argosaronic Islands Are Calling

The Saronic or Argo Saronic Islands of Greece call travelers to explore its seven small islands and islets brimming with history, natural sites and more. With most easily accessible by boat, the islands’ proximity to ports of Athens make the Saronic Islands an ideal destination for those preferring shorter boat rides. In fact, trips from Athens ports to the islands take only between 10 minutes and two hours, depending on the island you choose, making them perfect for day or weekend trips. From Piraeus port, you can access Hydra, Spetses, Aegina and Poros directly. Come explore these stunning islands with us and find the inspiration to plan your next trip to these islands. Hydra Hydra town curves around a slope overlooking the Argosaronic Gulf like an amphitheater and is considered one of the most romantic destinations in Greece. Most unique to the island is its lack of vehicles. People on the island get around on mules and donkeys as well as water taxis, making for a peaceful and laid-back day. Hydra lies a two-hour ferry ride from Piraeus port in Athens.
