Learn more about the incredible African country of Zimbabwe and take a ride on the new Elephant Express for two hours of game-viewing opportunities with Extraordinary Journey’s newest Zimbabwe Safari.

The nine-night itinerary is unique for offering one of its transfers via the new Elephant Express, a dual-engine single tram car launched last November to provide travelers with the exclusive chance to travel comfortably through the Hwange National Park.

The first three nights of the trip are spent at Camelthorn Lodge, located in a community concession with excellent game viewing, at the southeast border of Hwange National Park. In addition to traditional game drives, Camelthorn offers guests the chance to interact with the people of nearby Ngamo village, tour a local school and participate in Imvelo’s trademark pump run, which combines game viewing in remote areas of the park with assisting in water conservation activities.

Departing Camelthorn, guests board the Elephant Express, shuttling passengers on a leisurely two-hour ride north through Hwange National Park from Ngamo to Impofo, running on the iconic rail line extending from Pretoria from Victoria and marks the eastern border of Hwange. Travelers can sit back and relax, enjoy a packed lunch and watch the wildlife roaming around the borders of the park. The train ride ends in Impofu, where guests will take a short game drive to Nehimba Lodge, their next base.

The following three nights are spent at Nehimba Lodge, located on a private concession in the remote northern region of the Hwange National Park. Accommodations include thatched tents built on teak decks overlooking the magnificent lodge pan, a favored spot of many wildlife during the dry season, especially elephants. Nehimba offers many game-viewing experiences, including drives, walking safaris and night excursions to view nocturnal wildlife.

Concluding the final days of the trip, travelers will stay at Zambezi Sands, located next to the Zambezi River, within Zambezi national park. Here, the main lodge and luxury Bedouin tents are built on raised platforms with river views and private sun decks. Located just an hour’s drive from Victoria Falls, guests will have plenty of opportunity to visit the spectacular waterfalls and engage in a variety of water sports, including fishing, cruising, canoeing, white water rafting and bungee jumping.
