On the Way to Cape May

by Mary Melnick

Oct 6, 2026

After not making it down the shore all summer, I finally got to spend a fall weekend in Cape May, New Jersey. Although it isn’t my typical shore town (Ocean City) and the weather was a bit rainy, it still felt good to be by the ocean. With the weather and a busy weekend, I didn’t make it back on the actual beach itself, but that’s okay because it was still a fun weekend.

My brother and I headed down the shore early Friday afternoon; and once we made it there, we met up with the rest of my family, who were already there, to settle in. We were really there for a wedding on Saturday, but Friday was my brother Andrew’s 30th birthday, so we kicked the afternoon off with a trip to the Cape May Brewing Co. It’s one of my family’s favorite stops, but, surprisingly, I have never been, so I was excited to see what all the hype was about. We got two beers and some merchandise before getting ready for dinner at The Lobster House, which came highly recommended from their waitress at breakfast earlier that day.

While we were waiting for our table to be ready, we grabbed a drink on the outdoor bar which was actually located on a decommissioned boat. For dinner I got the Flounder Francese, and it may have been one of the best meals I’ve ever had. I didn’t want it to end.

Saturday was the day of the wedding, but it didn’t start until later in the day, so we spent the day grabbing breakfast at the hotel, wandering around the stores and boutiques in the Cape May Mall and grabbing a drink at another local brewery.Cape May

The wedding was at the hotel, so once we were ready, all we had to do was walk up to the outdoor terrace for the ceremony. Despite a little drizzle, the ceremony went off without a hitch and the newlyweds looked amazing! Now it was time for the party! The live band sounded amazing and played fun, dance-worthy, upbeat music, and everyone was on their feet dancing for the whole time.

Why Japan Is Best Explored by Sea with Princess

Japan is a destination that rewards repeat visits because no two regions — or seasons —  feel quite the same. One moment, you’re wandering through centuries-old geisha districts in Kanazawa. The next, you’re watching neon reflections dance across Tokyo streets long after midnight.
