I have always had a deep admiration for art of any kind. I will admit that part of it likely stems from jealousy — I lack such talent to draw even a simple cube. But mostly I will forever be in love with the idea that you can say so much without saying anything at all. I feel that this is what makes art so special. There are no rules or limits, just you and your medium.

Earlier this month my family and I took yet another trip to Philadelphia to have brunch with my grandparents at Parc (a fabulous Stephen Starr restaurant). It did not disappoint and in fact was a rather adventurous brunch … I tried snails. Nobody tells you they taste exactly like mussels. Afterwards, we headed over to the Rittenhouse Square Fine Art Show. It was their 95th annual show, and I hadn’t been since I was a little girl.

We slowly walked along the square, marveling at the vivid colors, mixed textures and endless original ideas. Some paintings were 3-D and layered, some watercolor and some even melted crayon. There were clay and glass sculptures and welded figures on display. A highlight for me was bumping into Charles Cushing at his art booth, the creator of my favorite painting — a beautiful mural of Philadelphia that hangs in my own living room.

Such a shame that the show only lasts a few days, but I’ll just have to catch the next one in September.
