The Dubai Fountain

by Christie Rhodes

Nov 27, 2012

Man-made. It’s a term used to describe something not created through force of nature. Often, this is artwork of immense beauty; sometimes, it is a simple technology like a bridge. Dubai is the very definition of man-made. A city manufactured on top of a canvas of desert with a palate of glass and steel. The broad brush strokes of this old port city cum ville moderne are in place, but the details are still in process. One of theses details is the breathtaking Dubai Fountain.

Located on a 30-acre man-made lake, The Dubai Fountain is an oasis for the imagination. On each boundary of the lake, an outstanding view is available to you, whether you’re alfresco dining near the Dubai Mall, shopping at the Souk Al Bahar or staying at the Armani Hotel in the Burj Khalifa. Once animated, The Dubai Fountain becomes a four-dimension marvel, moving volumes of water skyward and moving visitors back to chapters in their lives when awe was more in vogue.

Choreographed to classical arrangements and operatic embellishments thereof, The Dubai Fountain invites your undivided attention as a sensory experience. It whooshes to a start and draws crowds in immediately. Many get caught in the spray, and the fountain quite literally uncovers the youth in each visitor and leaves everyone gushing over the experience. It’s an innate almost primal urge to be drawn to water, and nature in itself is a miracle, but real magic can be witnessed at The Dubai Fountain. Hard to believe it is man-made.
