Whenever Haley Reinhart performs in the Chicago area, it is always like a big family reunion. Her recent show at Schuba’s was another wonderful night of music, family and friends.

A native of the Chicago area, Haley’s parents Harry and Patti have performed for many years, while sister Angie has her own band,  The Alright Maybes. After placing third on American Idol in 2011, Reinhart has gone on to a successful musical career. Her cover of “I Can’t Help Falling in Love” was certified platinum in 2023.

As with most Chicago shows, Haley’s family, including fiancé Drew Dolan, was in attendance. Another native Chicago musician, Drew published One Giant Leap, his first children’s book, last year.

Keeping with the reunion feel, the evening started with catching up with many fellow long-time fans (or Haliens). We all became friends through the many shows we attend. This was my tenth time seeing Haley but Jodie’s first, and she’s now a big fan. We had a great audio backdrop, as Haley warmed up and did a sound check in the next room.

Soon we joined Haley for a meet-and-greet. Despite being under the weather, Haley was her usual self, making each encounter special. I was also happy to finally meet Drew.

After a bit more chatting with other fans, Lydia Cash took the stage as the opener. Accompanied by her new husband, Cash played a mix of country and folk. I later learned Cash is also a talented artist.

After a short break to change equipment, Haley and her band came out to a thunderous round of applause made louder by the closeness of all. Haley sang songs from across her career. This was the first time I heard her belt out “Benny and the Jets,” which was one of the many highlights for me.

Another of the highlights is always when papa Harry joins Haley on stage. Harry always proves he has quite a set of musical chops. He can shred with the best of them. It is also so heartwarming seeing the affection between father and daughter.

The small size of Schuba’s made this performance very intimate. Haley certainly can fill much larger venues, but she wanted to perform in the close quarters of Schuba’s.

Next month Haley will join Dave Koz on the Dave Koz & Friends at Sea Somma Jewels of the Adriatic Sea Cruise. A couple months ago, I interviewed both Dave and Haley about the cruise, travel and their careers. Haley is also joining Dave for the Dave Koz & Friends Christmas Tour.

Nestled in the Lakeview neighborhood, Schuba’s has been the home to a wide range of music since 1989. Its landmark building dates back to 1903 as part of a Schlitz Brewery project. Known as a Tied House, it still operates as a saloon, adjacent to the music venue.
