On Friday, Grease was the word at the Skokie Theatre. It was a fantastic Opening Night with Danny, Sandy and the rest of the gang from Rydell High.
Celebrating its 10th anniversary season, MadKap Productions is the resident production company for the Skokie Theatre. A cornerstone of the Skokie community, the 150-seat theater offers amazing productions with clear, comfortable viewing from every seat.
This production of Grease was going to be a big test for the two of us. The 1978 movie Grease is one of my favorites, and Jodie adores the musical since performing in it in high school. We were excited to see how this production fared.

Based on several previous productions I have attended at Skokie Theatre, I figured it would be great, and it was. From “Alma Mater” to “We Go Together,” every number was belted with passion and energy. We couldn’t even pick a favorite performance because whether solo or ensemble, every song was a hit.

The acting was solid, too. We felt the excitement of Kenickie and his “Greased Lightning.” We shared the pain of Rizzo’s “There Are Worse Things I Could Do.” Young and old moved along with “Born to Hand Jive.”

This production of Grease is one of those that works on two levels. It’s a classic story of young love. It’s also just a fun time. Yes, I did find myself singing along silently. We left the theatre feeling great.

The good time continued in the lobby, though. We met several of the cast members who were all incredibly nice.

Running through July 28, Grease is only one of several productions scheduled for the Skokie Theatre. South Pacific, Boy Gets Girl and Romeo and Bernadette run later this year and into 2025. There are also several one-time productions throughout the year.
