During a recent visit to Sonoma County, California, my husband and I spent the day in Glen Ellen. We were staying at Gaige House + Ryokan. We arrived ahead of check-in time, and our room wasn’t ready yet, so we decided to explore.
We first made our way to the nearby Jack London State Historic Park. Open daily, the 1,400-acre park features a museum, London’s grave and former cottage and 29 miles of hiking trails. We spent a few hours hiking and exploring the museum. Also located in the park are the remains of London’s dream house, Wolf House, destroyed by a fire in 1913, shortly before the construction would have been complete.
Hungry after a long afternoon, we then made our way to Glen Ellen Village Market to grab some lunch. We each ordered sandwiches and shared a salad we made at the salad bar. Sandwiches in hand, we drove to the nearby Mayo Family Winery to enjoy some wine with our lunch. We decided on sparkling Rosé, which, combined with our sandwiches, was a perfect end to our afternoon in Glen Ellen.
