In my last blog I wrote about National Sports Collectors Convention. When I wasn’t there, I was at Flashback Weekend.
Flashback Weekend is Chicago’s largest and longest-running horror convention. Since debuting in 2002, it has grown in size and popularity while maintaining the hospitality of a smaller con. Held at Hyatt Regency O’Hare, it features meet-and-greets, panels, screenings and more.
After attending it for a few years, I learned it was run by Mike and Mia Kerz, cousins of my friend Chuck. Now it is a bit of a mini-reunion every year.
Some of the celebrities I met were David Arquette, Marley Shelton, William Katt and Steven Weber, in town filming Chicago Med. I was especially happy to talk to Shelton about her iconic scene in The Sandlot, one of my favorite movies.

I also caught up with a few vendors I have befriended over the years, including author John Everson; artist Joel Robinson; Zack and Erica Kauffman, owners of Atomic Cotton clothing; and author Martin Palmer. All had interesting new items on display.
