During a recent visit to Chile, I spent an afternoon exploring Valparaíso. Located along the coast, the seaport city is home to many charming shops and restaurants. It’s the perfect place to spend a relaxing afternoon.
Valparaíso has many hills. We began our visit by taking the Reina Victoria funicular to the top of the neighborhood. We spent some time strolling around before making our way to lunch at Tres Peces. The restaurant offers a robust menu of only sustainable seafood. They work with local fishermen who deliver the catch directly to the restaurant. For lunch I enjoyed garlic shrimp in the shell.
To work off our lunch, we spent more time strolling the streets of Valparaíso and viewing street art. The exterior of many buildings boast this art, though it’s illegal, depending on how it’s presented. It’s easy to spend hours viewing the intricate street art throughout Valparaíso.
For a sweet end to the day, we visited popular ice cream shop, Emporio La Rosa. The ice cream shop specializes in flavors of Chile. I enjoyed a scoop of pineapple sorbet. It was a refreshing end to a beautiful day.
