Iberia launched a new non-stop route between San Francisco (SFO) and Madrid (MAD). It is the only airline to offer this non-stop route.
A seasonal route, it is available three times weekly, Monday, Wednesday and Friday, through Sept. 28. From Madrid, passengers may connect to 22 other Spanish cities, 36 destinations in Europe and four in Africa and the Middle East.
Iberia’s most modern aircraft, the twin-engine, wide-body Airbus A330-200, with newly-designed business- and economy-class sections, services the route.
“San Francisco is our sixth gateway in the United States and Iberia’s flight to Madrid will be the only non-stop route linking both cities,” said Luis Gallego, chairman and CEO, Iberia. “Our flights will be a good choice for many customers departing from, or traveling to, Spain and other Southern European destinations.”
“We are proud that Iberia has chosen SFO as their newest destination in the United States,” said Ivar C. Satero, airport director, San Francisco International Airport. “Non-stop flights between Spain and San Francisco are highly sought-after, and I fully expect this new service to be a success. Our thanks and congratulations go out to the entire Iberia team.”

All archaeology-obsessed eyes turned hopefully toward Egypt earlier this year when the highly anticipated Grand Egyptian Museum outside Cairo finally began welcoming visitors after construction delays, funding roadblocks and political upheaval in the region (among other factors) conspired to keep things delayed for many long years. The museum’s cherry on the top is slated to open this summer, with the July opening of the museum’s 20-plus-years-in-the-making Tutankhamen galleries and accompanying cache of some 5,000 artifacts and treasures from the boy king’s tomb.
