Spread across the rolling green landscape of Sonoma county in Healdsburg, Calif., Jordan Vineyard & Winery appears to have been transported from a French village. The sprawling chateau at the center of it all is home to a dining room and kitchen, wine cellars, winemaking facilities and a tasting library. Opened in 1976, the 58,000-square-foot chateau was designed by architect Bob Arrigoni. Visitors can experience the property with four separate wine tours and gourmet wine tastings with food pairings, drawing on ingredients from expansive kitchen gardens that include a grove of fruit trees, rows of vibrant vegetables, fragrant herbs and honey from the estate’s own hives. Throughout the year, events include hikes through the vineyards, themed dinners and other culinary occasions. Library Tastings offer a seated tasting in the cellar room with estate olive oil, artisan cheeses and vintages that include choices such as Russian River Valley Chardonnay and Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, served with hors d’oeuvres prepared by the estate’s Executive Chef Todd Knoll. During the holiday season, the Holiday Tour & Tasting treats guests to tastings in the dining room beside the fireplace, and winds up with homemade cookies and hot cocoa.

While you’re in Healdsburg, don’t miss a visit to the Russian River Rose Company. This magical, family-run nursery and show garden is home to the Rose History Trail, Shade Garden, Rose Allee, Butterfly Garden, Iris Garden, a perfume distillery and a nursery with more than 100 hand-selected rose varieties. Owners Jan (a biologist) and Michael Tolmasoff (an engineer) raise rare varieties that find their way into a limited number of handcrafted rosewater and rose perfumes created with ancient Bulgarian perfume-making traditions — a scent known to have been a favorite of Marie Antionette, Napoleon Bonapart and Cleopatra VII. Rose harvest tours allow guests to immerse themselves in beauty while learning about the intense process of creating perfume. During the Deluxe Gourmet Perfume Rose Harvest Tour, participants take part in the rosewater distilling process, tour the gardens and enjoy a host of rosy treats such as rose hip jam, Turkish delight, baklava and rose water sorbet, followed by a glass of Rose Champagne.
