Crocuses, tulips and hyacinths blossoming in Kongens Nytorv (also called The Kings New Square) are close to Copenhagen’s grandest hotel, Hotel d’Angleterre, and the flowers are a colorful sign the dark Scandinavian winter has come to an end. It’s time to stroll through the city and enjoy the tree-lined streets and parks in this wonderful European destination.

Set in Copenhagen’s main city square, Kongens Nytorv, Hotel d’Angleterre was established in 1755 and is considered a legendary institution in Copenhagen. Hans Christian Andersen himself was a recurring guest. Copenhagen’s only Leading Hotel of the World, this property is known for its elegant Scandinavian design and standard of luxury.

The hotel’s Michelin-starred restaurant, Marchal, is overseen by Executive Chef Alexander Baert who blends classical French technique and influences with touches of the New Nordic cuisine movement. The hotel’s bar, Balthazar, was the first Champagne bar in Denmark.

Maison’s, Hotel d’Angleterre’s gourmet pastry shop, has been awarded Cake of the Year 2026 at the prestigious annual Danish pastry competition, crowning the city’s best cake. The competition brought together around 100 pastry chefs, each tasked with creating 28 identical cakes, judged on both taste and appearance by a jury from the Copenhagen Pastry Guild.

Maison’s Head Pastry Chef Freja Krarup Johansen claimed the top honor for the second year in a row, this year for her creation, Pineapple Twister, made up of pineapple cream with lime, vanilla mousse, crunchy yuzu crisp, almond biscuit and pineapple jelly with lemon verbena. She was also awarded the Creativity Prize in recognition of her exceptional ideas.

Another good sign of spring in Copenhagen may be the annual reopening of the city’s Tivoli Gardens, one of the world’s oldest operating amusement parks. Founded in 1843, it was Copenhagen’s Tivoli Gardens that inspired a Californian named Walt Disney to create Disneyland. Tivoli is not just for children; their creative rides, entertainment, and food and drinks are for visitors of all ages.

Guests staying at Hotel d’Angleterre can take advantage of the hotel’s Tivoli Offer, which includes entry tickets to the park. Alternatively, guests can apply the savings of the hotel’s four-nights-for-the-cost-of-three (or three-nights-for-the-price-of-two) offers toward Tivoli tickets.  There are several other tempting hotel offers available, including a Family promotion, or an opportunity to enjoy a three-course dinner at the hotel’s Michelin-starred restaurant, Marchal, followed by a restful night at the hotel’s elegant surroundings, and a delicious breakfast buffet.

Although the hotel’s traditional gourmet Easter Brunch has passed, there are numerous nearby restaurants and cafés, in addition to hotel dining venues, offering amazing culinary experiences, just a five-minute walk from the hotel. These include Beau Marche, Llama and Esmee. Close visitor attractions tend to be art-oriented and include Designmuseum Denmark, National Gallery of Denmark, Copenhagen Opera House and unique Christiania Art Gallery.

Renting a bicycle or using the city’s efficient Metro system are great ways to get around the city, especially during the warm spring weather.
