WeTravel, a payment and booking platform for multiday and group tour operators, surveyed 592 tour operators in early April to determine the impact of COVID-19 on the industry. Most tour operators have confidence travel will return in fall 2020, with almost a third of respondents rescheduling trips to June–September 2020. Almost 40 percent will postpone to October–December.
More than half of the companies surveyed expect to see 2020 revenue decline by at least 50 percent, compared to last year. About half managed to give full refunds to travelers, with only 39 percent of vendors willing to give full refunds to tour operators and 11 percent not willing to refund or even reschedule.
Most tour operators have a positive outlook for 2020, with 44 percent believing it will take 6–12 months for the travel industry to recover. Read the full report.
