Virgin Australia transforms the economy travel experience with the launch of Economy X. The new product is designed to provide comfort, enhancing travel both on the ground and in the air across Virgin Australia’s network.

Economy X is a first-of-its-kind product in the domestic market in Australia, transforming economy travel. It will offer extra legroom, designated overhead baggage storage, priority boarding and domestic priority screening. The first three rows of the economy cabin on the Boeing 737 fleet will be reconfigured by the end of May. The reconfiguration means nearly 20 percent of economy seats will offer extra legroom.

“We know that speed on the ground and space in the air are important to our guests, which is why we’re excited to launch Economy X,” said John Thomas, group executive, Virgin Australia Airlines. “Economy X will empower passengers to tailor their travel experience and will give them more choice when they fly. I’m confident that Economy X will be very well received by guests.”

On short-haul international flights, Economy X is to replace Economy Space+ and will include the above features as well as priority check-in where available. On long-haul international flights, Economy X again replaces Economy Space+ and offers extra legroom, premium check-in, premium boarding, designated overhead storage, guaranteed first meal choice and a premium noise-canceling headset.

The cabin status is free of charge for Velocity frequent-flyer Platinum members offered the product at the time of booking when available and before check-in when flying domestic or short-haul international. Companions traveling on the same booking will also be eligible.

Economy X is available for flights beginning May 21.
