Virgin Atlantic doubles its Heathrow (LHR)–Johannesburg (JNB) service Oct. 28, to twice daily.
The second flight, operated with a Boeing 787-9 aircraft, departs Heathrow at 4:45 p.m., lands in Johannesburg at 5:40 a.m. the following day, with the return leg leaving Johannesburg at 10:20 p.m. and arriving back into Heathrow at 7:30 a.m. the following day. The first tickets went on sale March 24.
Virgin touted the new frequency as being “timed to enable customers to easily connect onto flights with Virgin Atlantic and Delta to over 200 US destinations, including Los Angeles and San Francisco.”
The new flight adds 180,000 seats and comes on the heels of South African Airways’ decision to drop one of its two daily flights between Heathrow and Johannesburg, as of April 20.
Customers on the new route will be able to take advantage of Virgin’s revamped economy class, now offering a choice of three fares: economy light (hand baggage only), economy classic and economy delight (36 seats with 34 inches of legroom).
