United Airlines tightens its MileagePlus rewards program, affecting how some passengers earn miles. Beginning April 2, Basic Economy passengers flying United Airlines will no longer earn award miles. Only Basic Economy passengers with a qualifying United Airlines co-branded card or Premier elite status will still be eligible to earn miles.

The change is part of a greater shift within United Airlines’ MileagePlus program, giving cardholders and higher-value customers more opportunities to earn and redeem. This includes giving primary United MileagePlus cardholders up to twice as many miles per dollar from United for United flights than non-cardholders, and earn even more miles when they use their United card to buy tickets.

United is also giving general MileagePlus members with a United credit or debit card access to Saver Award inventory in United Polaris Business Class, previously only available to Platinum and 1K members. When paired with the new award discounts for cardholders, United Polaris Saver Award seats will be priced as low as 72,000 miles (10 percent less) for general members with a card, or as low as 68,000 miles (15 less) for cardholders with Premier status.

Best of Both Worlds

Enjoy the best of both worlds when you fly with TAP Air Portugal thanks to the Portugal Stopover program. With the program, TAP passengers, whether traveling for business, leisure or both, can stop in Portugal for up to 10 days at no additional airfare on the way to their final destination. What does this mean for travelers wishing to explore by both land and sea? It means after flying to Portugal with TAP and experiencing the country in an entirely new way, travelers can then embark on scenic river and ocean cruises from  Portugal’s port cities, or fly with TAP to another European destination.

Sun, Sea, Cliffs and Bridges Beckon on the Pacific Coast Highway

On one side, waves breathe in and out across wide stretches of sand or explode against jagged rocks, sending spray shooting into the air. On the other side, the scenery changes: Cliffs rise like walls, vineyards clip past in neat rows, pine trees line the road. Between these, cities give way to small communities with art galleries, local restaurants and shops selling beachwear.
