TripAdvisor named its picks for top landmarks worldwide. The winners were determined by quantifying landmark TripAdvisor reviews and ratings over the past year. “These Travelers’ Choice award-winning landmarks attract millions of visitors each year and represent some of the world’s most impressive examples of human ingenuity. Travelers who want to discover, or rediscover, these iconic attractions can book tours for unique experiences including in some cases exclusive behind-the-scenes access,” said Barbara Messing, chief marketing officer, TripAdvisor. When looking at just the landmarks within the United States, the top picks were, in order, the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool, Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz, the USS Arizona Memorial, Grand Central Terminal, the Statue of Liberty, the Empire State Building, Biltmore Estate, Brooklyn Bridge and Rockefeller Center. Landmarks for the world as a whole included, in order, Machu Picchu, Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque Center, Angkor Wat, St. Peter’s Basilica, the Taj Mahal, the Mosque-Cathedral of Cordoba, Church of the Savior on Spilt Blood, the Alhambra, the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool and Milan Cathedral.
