Three’s the charm, and 2027 will see Holland America Line’s introduction of Zuiderdam, its third ship dedicated to the Northern European region. That’s good news, given this part of the world — which includes both Iceland and Greenland — continues to rank as a top cruise destination.
“Northern Europe is extremely popular with our guests, for the ports of call and stunning scenery. As a cruise line rooted in European heritage, we’re uniquely positioned to offer one-of- a-kind explorations with an onboard experience that matches the region,” said Paul Grigsby, vice president of deployment and itinerary planning, Holland America Line. “The destinations in the region are some of our highest-rated — from standout ports in Norway like Eidfjord and Bergen and scenic cruising in Eyjafjörður, Iceland, to the UK’s Liverpool and Ireland’s Killybegs — this season provides guests more chances to experience everything Northern Europe has to offer.”
Founded in Rotterdam in 1873, Holland America Line maintains a link with its heritage through the “Dutch Touch,” ranging from classic design to cultural traditions, cuisine and other aspects of the Netherlands that are beautifully brought together on “Dutch Day.” Onboard, guests can sip curated cocktails crafted by award-winning Dutch bartender Tess Posthumus, and enjoy port talks, live entertainment and destination-specific “Up Close” presentations.
Bookings are now open for the 2027 season, which includes solar eclipse and Northern Lights at sea cruises. Two eclipse cruises will be accompanied by onboard scientific experts who will provide lectures. Themed activities will be offered, and eclipse glasses will be provided for safe viewing. Guests even have the option of getting a wake-up call from the ship’s crew when the Aurora Borealis appears.
