The Westin Houston, Memorial City Review

Driving across Texas on our way to San Antonio, we opted to spend one night in Houston. When selecting a hotel, we chose a west side property to avoid morning rush hour traffic. Conveniently attached to Memorial City Mall and adjacent to Memorial Hermann Medical Center, the Westin is also within easy access of the Energy Corridor.

Arriving early at the hotel gave us time to enjoy some of the property’s amenities. The 18th-floor rooftop infinity pool provides a vertigo-inducing perspective of Houston. There are plenty of lounge chairs on the shaded deck perfect for catching up on reading. The adjacent WestinWORKOUT Fitness Studio contains treadmills, ellipticals, stationary bikes and a mini fridge stocked with juice. The hotel makes fitness a priority and offers a three-mile group running program Tuesday through Thursday, as well as a workout equipment lending program.

Our sixth-floor executive king suite works well for business travelers. The living room with a powder room, couch, coffee table and small round table easily accommodates a group of nine. Refreshments can be set up at the bar, which includes a sink, microwave, mini fridge and coffee station. A door separates the bedroom. Large flat-screen televisions are located in both of the rooms. The bedroom features a six-foot desk, another mini fridge, robe, slippers and safe.

After a day of work head to 024 Lounge with a soothing wall of cascading water and a daily happy hour of $5 bites and drinks served 4–6 p.m. The hotel also offers a complimentary shuttle.  We used the covered walkway leading to Memorial City Mall and watched a movie.

The morning of our departure, we picked up complimentary newspapers in the lobby before eating a healthy breakfast at 024 Grille. Jazz music played in the background as we entered the contemporary space with an industrial feel while the kitchen crew worked behind a beveled glass wall. Leaving the hotel, we filled complimentary to-go cups of coffee. Relaxed and refreshed after our stay at the Westin, we headed out for our next stop in the Lone Star State.
