Due to competition from sites like Booking.com and Expedia, Airbnb is experiencing a substantial stall in inquiries and bookings, particularly in the United States and Europe.
Findings from a Morgan Stanley Research report show continued slow growth in the United States, United Kingdom, France and Germany due to competition from other booking sites. The frequency with which travelers book using the homesharing site also has decreased by approximately 10 percent to an average of three times per year.
Possible causes for this lull in activity include privacy and safety issues: 50 percent of those who responded to the survey cited concerns about safety as a reason not to book with Airbnb with fears residing in possible scams or untrustworthy hosts. The rise in booking alternative accommodation through online travel agencies also contributes to these findings as Morgan Stanley Research predicts this method of booking will grow 1.3 times faster than Airbnb bookings, with 59 percent of respondents reporting the use of such agencies. Through these agencies, hotels in the United States and Europe have seen an increase in bookings of 7 percent, compared with 6 percent for Airbnb.
Although Airbnb is still growing and expects to see a growth of 20 percent by the year 2020, the growth plateaued as travelers turn to other booking options.

Mar 28, 2024Cruise Lines Elevate the Onboard Fine-Dining Experience
It’s been a long time since the food on cruise ships resembled the bland, uninspired fare that gave onboard dining a bad name. These days, cruise passengers can look forward to menus created by Michelin-starred chefs made with top-quality ingredients served in stunning spaces. Choices abound as well. In addition to elegant main dining rooms, cruise ships have created a huge array of specialty restaurants that focus not only on perfectly executed traditional European and North American dishes but flavors and experiences from around the globe as well. In fact, meals served aboard cruise vessels have gotten so good, they’re drawing passengers onto ships: According to a recent report by luxury travel planning network Virtuoso, advisors report after Europe (specifically Italy and France), the No. 2 dining destination for travelers is aboard an ocean or river cruise. “This shows how cruise lines have really stepped up their culinary game, with consulting chefs and new restaurants and making that a focal point,” said Misty Belles, vice president, Global Public Relations, Virtuoso.
