The Elms Hotel and Spa announced completion of renovations to most of its property. The historic hotel, open for 125 years, debuts an updated look inspired by the hotel’s original features to preserve the property’s legacy and provide a timeless experience for guests.
The upgrades, designed by Meri Meis, include the entirety of the 153-room property. Designs were inspired by the original architecture, including mosaic tile flooring in the lobby, which now displays a transitional-modern style complementing the historic design.
Spa at The Elms introduced a new sanctuary space, offering guests a place to unwind ahead of treatments. An array of seating provides spaces for solo guests or groups, as well as options for lounging. Spa director Marissa Krems oversaw the spa upgrades in order to ensure the space is tailored to the needs of spa-goers. Meis incorporated tranquil, natural colors with blue hues to visually reference the element of water, drawing inspiration from the hotel’s location surrounded by 46 mineral springs.
Guests should check out the new mud bar to exfoliate and experience the natural healing properties from the mineral-enriched mud. The outdoor grotto area offers a new Zen garden, where guests can take time to retreat and reflect on their experiences. The hotel also offers a complimentary class on Wednesday and Friday, where guests can connect with nature in the meditation garden.
Other upgrades include a refinished indoor lap pool; new workout equipment from Peloton in the fitness center; updated furniture and decor in The Tavern, the property’s cocktail bar; and new farm-to-table specialties offered at Three Owls.
The Café Soterian and the Market, located in the lobby are new must-visit spaces also added to the hotel. The Café Soterian serves Elms Blend coffee drinks, smoothies, pastries and daily lunch offerings. At night, the space transforms into a wine bar serving craft beers, wine, cocktails and flatbread pizzas. The Market offers a space to shop for sweet treats and souvenirs.

Mar 28, 2024Cruise Lines Elevate the Onboard Fine-Dining Experience
It’s been a long time since the food on cruise ships resembled the bland, uninspired fare that gave onboard dining a bad name. These days, cruise passengers can look forward to menus created by Michelin-starred chefs made with top-quality ingredients served in stunning spaces. Choices abound as well. In addition to elegant main dining rooms, cruise ships have created a huge array of specialty restaurants that focus not only on perfectly executed traditional European and North American dishes but flavors and experiences from around the globe as well. In fact, meals served aboard cruise vessels have gotten so good, they’re drawing passengers onto ships: According to a recent report by luxury travel planning network Virtuoso, advisors report after Europe (specifically Italy and France), the No. 2 dining destination for travelers is aboard an ocean or river cruise. “This shows how cruise lines have really stepped up their culinary game, with consulting chefs and new restaurants and making that a focal point,” said Misty Belles, vice president, Global Public Relations, Virtuoso.
