Spirit Airlines recently announced new service between Oakland (OAK), California, and Fort Lauderdale (FLL), Florida, scheduled to launch April 1. The service is the only non-stop flight between the two destinations.
“Right now, our guests on both coasts have limited options between the Bay Area and South Florida,” said John Kirby, vice president of network planning, Spirit Airlines. “Offering the only non-stop connection between Oakland with Fort Lauderdale makes it easier for travelers on both ends, and it shows our guests we’re tailoring our options to them as we keep growing our nationwide network.”
“We are thrilled to welcome Fort Lauderdale to Oakland’s route map,” said Bryant Francis, director of aviation, Port of Oakland. “This flight will make it more convenient than ever for our travelers to reach the sun and sand of South Florida. Plus, it gives them access to Spirit’s dozens of international destinations and the cruises departing from South Florida’s ports.”
The seasonal route will operate daily.

Opened this past November, Osaka Excel Tokyu Hotel rethinks the classic Japanese business hotel format in a delightful way. While the basic design concept is rooted in generations-old Japanese aesthetics, its wow factor comes from the interior designers’ approach of filtering them through a kaleidoscope. This effect is accomplished with ornate hexagonal lamps, carpeting with geometric shape motifs and pops of happy gold and blue hues. The lobby adds to that with a whimsical, but sophisticated mix of artwork and decorative ornaments, with a color palette and ornamentation that extends to 364 private rooms and suites throughout 17 floors.
