This month, Southwest Airlines will debut free and fast WiFi on its Boeing 737-800, slated to enter service at the end of June. This will mark the first aircraft equipped with Starlink WiFi, replacing its former providers Anuvu and Viasat.
Southwest planes equipped with the older technology will be scheduled first for Starlink installations. By the end of 2026, Starlink WiFi will be available on more than 300 of its aircraft, marking a major step in the carrier’s plan to upgrade all of its aircraft with high-speed, low-Earth-orbit satellite technology.
“Free WiFi has been a huge hit with our Rapid Rewards Members, and we know our customers expect seamless connectivity across all their devices when they travel,” said Tony Roach, executive vice president, chief customer officer and chief brand officer, Southwest Airlines. “Starlink delivers that at-home experience in the air, giving Customers the ability to stream their favorite shows from any platform, watch live sports, download music, play games, work, and connect with loved ones from takeoff to landing.”
